The Terre Haute North Patriots took advantage of 8 hits and 5 Mustang errors to earn a victory over the Fountain Central Mustangs Wednesday evening at Patriot Field. The final score was 12-2 in favor of the Patriots in a game shortened by the 10-run rule. Sophomore Andrew Gauer saw his first action of the season on the mound in picking up the victory. Gauer’s totals for the night included 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, and 3 K. Junior J.T. Bailey and senior Brandon Dorsett pitched to the minimum number of hitters in the 5th and 6th innings, respectively, to seal the win.
Offensively, senior Andrew Bledsoe and junior Nick Pilipovich were both 1-for-1 on the night each scoring one run. Dorsett was 1-for-2 with a 2-run home run and two runs scored. Sophomore Dougie Collett (triple and 1 rbi) and juniors Jared Eller (double and 2 rbi) and Billy Sisson (double and 1 rbi) were each 1-for-3 on the night with one run scored. Junior Michael Eberle was also 1-for-3 on the night with a run batted in. Senior Mark Merrill was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Seniors Keaton Sumner and Chad Wilguess and junior Wade Bush each added a run scored after being walked. Senior Joe Meggs also scored for the Patriots (team leader in runs scored with 13).
For the Mustangs, shortstop Brent Nelson was 2-for-3 with an rbi. Second baseman Zach Robertson was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Starting pitcher Tanner Hands went 1-for 2 with an rbi.
The Patriots are now 4-4 on the year with a road trip planned for Saturday, April 12th, to Warren Central. North and Warren Central have an MIC doubleheader scheduled for 10 a.m. Fountain Central is now 2-4. The Mustangs play at North Vermillion in a WRC doubleheader Saturday also slated to begin at 10 a.m.
