Terre Haute North got off the bus at 6pm for a game previously scheduled for 6pm. With little warm-up, the game began at 6:35 and the Patriots were down 1-0 by the end of the first inning. By the end of two, North's deficit grew to 3-0 with the Patriots allowing the Warriors 3 unearned runs. Coincidentally enough, the Patriots put two on the board in the top of the third with the aid of two Warren Central errors despite logging a lone single and a hit batsman.
Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning provided Warren Central with a 4-2 lead. In the top of the fifth, however, the momentum swung in the direction of the Patriots. Senior Chad Wilguess reached on an error, stole second base, took third on a passed ball, and scored on an infield groundball that was played into a fielder's choice allowing Mark Merrill to reach first base. Sandwiched between Wilguess and Merrill was a flyout by junior Nick Pilipovich. Senior Joe Meggs reached base on a fielder's choice himself that saw Merrill forced out at second. Meggs took second on a wild pitch. With two outs and Meggs at second, junior Billy Sisson was intentionally walked. Senior Brandon Dorsett then hit a 1-2 breaking pitch over the left field wall for a 3-run HR and a 6-4 Patriot lead.
Terre Haute North added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Pilipovich hit a flyball to the outfield that got lost in the lights and fell for a "double". Meggs advanced Pilipovich to third with a groundout to second. Sisson then hit an RBI single to right center field that nearly took the head of the Warren Central second baseman off on its way to the outfield.
The bottom of the seventh provided more excitement for the host Warriors. Erik Fannin and Casey Pollard singled to open the inning. Daniel Cho then reached first on the third and final walk from junior pitcher J.T. Bailey. Fellow junior Keaton O'Laughlin was then summoned from the bullpen. Matt Hoke of the Warriors hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Fannin. Dylan Sheldon then hit a single between the Patriot shortstop and third baseman to once again load the bases. Dell Barker hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Pollard trimming the Patriot lead to 7-6. Not to be shaken, O'Laughlin proceeded to get the next Warrior to strikeout looking leaving runners at second and third while notching his first save of the season.
Terre Haute North is now 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the M.I.C. and will travel to Brownsburg HS Thursday, April 17th, for a 5:30pm game. The Patriots will continue their conference twinbill against Warren Central next Tuesday at Patriot Field in a game scheduled for 6pm.
