WILDCATS WHIP PATRIOTS IN FRIST GAME OF MIC DOUBLEHEADER

Thru 3 innings of the first game of the scheduled doubleheader between the host Terre Haute North Patriots and the visiting Lawrence North Wildcats, the score was LN 1, THN 0. The Patriots had collected 3 hits to the Wildcats 1. The Patriots had struck out 3 batters, and the Wildcats had struck out 1. But the biggest factor in the deficit was that Terre Haute North walked three batters, threw a wild pitch, and had a passed ball. Lawrence North walked two through the first three innings.

Innings four and five proved to polar opposites for the two conference foes. The Patriots sent seven batters to the plate during the fourth and fifth innings – the lone baserunner was senior Keaton Sumner who reached base by getting hit by a pitch. Conversely, Lawrence North sent 16 batters to the plate. Their totals included eight runs on six hits, one walk, one hit batsman, three Patriot errors, two wild pitches, a solo home run (by LN shortstop Brett Detty), and a grand slam home run (by LN designated-hitter Craig Millard). Though the Wildcats were able to load the bases in the sixth inning and get one baserunner on during the top of the seventh, the Patriots escaped without giving up any additional runs. Seniors Joe Meggs and Brandon Dorsett hit a single and double consecutively in the sixth. Meggs then scored on an infield groundout to the shortstop by junior Jared Eller. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Parker Fulkerson hit a double and advanced to third base when Sumner reached first base on an infield error. Sophomore Andrew Gauer scored Fulkerson with a single. Senior Mark Merrill walked. Sumner scored on a sacrifice fly by Meggs. Dorsett then hit a towering double to left-center field that scored Gauer. Merrill was thrown out at the plate trying to score to end the game. The final score was Lawrence North 9, Terre Haute North 4.
