(Game Played Thursday, April 24, 2008) – TERRE HAUTE, IN
AVON SCENT DOESN’T WORK FOR THE PATRIOTS
The Patriots dropped an opportunity to hold the Orioles from Avon scoreless in the top of the first inning – an event that proved to foreshadow the painful ending that was yet to come – and ultimately went into their first at-bats facing a 2-0 deficit. Some timely hitting and a few mistakes by the visitors allowed Terre Haute North to take a lead of 6-2 going into the top of the fourth. And just as the crosswinds seemed to pick up as one would look across the horizon, Avon’s offense started to roll and the Patriot defense fell apart. Long story, short – Avon put up 11 unanswered runs to defeat the Terre Haute North Patriots 13-6 in non-conference action Thursday night. Totals on the evening included:
Avon - 13 runs, 10 hits, 2 errors, and 4 runners left on base
TH North - 6 runs, 6 hits, 7 errors, and 6 runners left on base
The Avon pitchers walked 5 North batters and hit one. The North pitchers walked 5 Avon batters and hit two. Avon permitted 2 North batters to reach base via an error. North allowed 4 Avon batters to reach base via an error. Avon went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position with three walks, a sacrifice fly, two flyouts, and 4 strikeouts. North went 2-for-14 with two walks, a hit batsman, 4 flyouts, and 6 strikeouts.
The Patriots (7-8) hit the road for a game at Bloomington South Friday.
