(Dec. 2, 2008) - Area cross country runners were giving Thanks after some great performances over Thanksgiving weekend at the Nike Cross National Southeast Regional and the Foot Locker South Regional.

Potomac Falls senior Josh Hardin ran a personal best 15:14 to finish third in a field of 165 runners at the Nike Cross National Southeast in Cary, N.C. to qualify for the Nike Cross Nationals national championship in Portland on Dec. 6. Hardin was running with his PF teammates with Brian Robinson (16:32) and Alvaro Morales (16:38) also each setting PRs in the race. Click here for complete results.

At the Foot Locker South in Charlotte, Loudoun County's Julie Strange turned in a 18:24 to finish 37th and Potomac Falls' Melissa Saunders ran an 18:59, both were PRs of 20 and 22 seconds for the two Loudoun runners.

And in other cross country news, Broad Run grad Stephanie Garcia ran well at the NCAA Division I championships last week at Indiana State, finishing 133rd with a 21:25.3 in the 6,000-meter race. Another former Loudoun runner, Tasmin Fanning of Virginia Tech, finished third in the race with a 19:37.1. Fanning, who ran her freshman year at Loudoun Valley High School but graduated from Western Albemarle after moving, was the first American runner to finish in the race which was won by Kenyan Sally Kipyego, who was followed by Susan Kuijken of the Netherlands.
