Tri-Central High School had two soccer players, Kevin Ray and Kyle Wyant, who were nominated and selected to play in an East vs. West 1A All-Star Game.
The East vs. West All-Star games will take place Thursday, June 25 at Blackford County High School in Hartford City. Games will start at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Ray was a three-year starter and a co-captain his senior year. His main playing positions were fullback and sweeper. His senior year he also played midfield.
“Kevin is an excellent cover defender and really stabilized the defense at sweeper his senior year,” Tri-Central Coach David Mast said.
Ray was named the 2008 Best Defensive Player; 2008 Most Valuable Player and 2008 All-Hoosier Heartland Conference.
Wyant was a two-year starter and a co-captain his senior year. His main playing position was goalie. His junior year he recorded five shutouts and had only one game with more than two goals scored against him (three goals vs. Northwestern).
“His senior year, due to 11 players graduating, he was pressed into field play and played just about every position during the season,” Mast said.
He was the recipient of TC’s Soccer Mental Attitude Award in 2007 and 2008 and also was selected All-HHC in 2007 and 2008.
In addition to the games, the two Trojan players will be honored at a selection ceremony on June 6 at Indiana Weslyan University.
