The
Cardinals won the County championship for the second year in a row on
Friday, May 15. A back-to-back County title has not been won in over 10
years. The Cards defeated Lawrence North 9-4 and are now 11-8.
According to head coach Mr. Scott Whitlock, the team played great and he is proud to be part of it.
“They
didn’t fall to any kind of the pressure of playing on Victory Field or
trying to back up the County Championship from last year,” said
Whitlock.
According
to Whitlock, all of the team’s pitching, hitting, and all around
offense and defense came together during the County tournament. He feels that the team is very well deserving of the win.
Senior third basemen Cameron Perkins hit a home run for the Cards in the top of the 7th. Senior center fielder Jordan Stenger had a “great” catch in the bottom of the 4th.
“The
highlight of the game was one through nine,” said Whitlock. “The boys
came up hitting the ball hard, great defensive plays and both pitchers
threw extremely well.”
The Cards will be back at Holder Field tonight at 5:00 p.m. against Bloomington South.
