RECREATIONAL SUCCESS
The travel program is notoriously known for competing at extremely high levels of soccer, especially during the Memorial Day weekend. But this past weekend our recreational program had done something that not to many other clubs in the state, let alone country could have done what the SAC Recreational Program did. They competed amongst other travel programs and were victorious.
Three recreational teams that had great success this past Memorial Day were the SAC U-12 Girls Renegades Select, SAC U-10 Blast Select, and SAC U-12 Boys Select.
SAC U-12 Girls Renegades Select
The SAC U-12 Girls Renegades Select team was only a 3 day old team when it took action in the 2009 CIST. The team was put together last minute, so they could be placed in the CIST and it consisted of players from different teams throughout the U-12 Girls Recreational A League. The brand new team took the pitch at Oakland Mills High School Memorial Day Weekend, to play on a regulation size field and have 11 players a side for the first time in their soccer careers.
For a team that had only been playing together for 3 days, the SAC U-12 Renegades looked very good in both games. They had numerous opportunities to score and played very solid defense against teams that were used to playing together on a large field with 11 players a side.
It only took the third game for the SAC Renegades to get its first victory at the travel level. The Renegades faced off against Forest Hill Force and were victorious with a 1-0 shutout.
SAC U-10 Boys Select "Blast"
The SAC Blast played in the Gettysburg Blue-Gray Cup this past Memorial Day and were Division 2 tournament finalist. The Blast compiled a 3-1-1 record en route to the championship game. They persevered a grueling semi-final match that went into triple, overtime, playing 3v3 with no keeper when the game winning goal was scored.
The overtime in this tournament starts out 5v5 with no goalie in the net. At the end of each 5 minute overtime, a player from each team is taken off the field. Whoever scores first wins the match in this golden goal format. It was a thrilling victory and tournament; a tournament the players of the SAC U-10 Blast will remember for a long time.
SAC U-12 Boys Rec-A Select
The SAC U-12 Select Team played six games in two days with the two final games going into sudden deal (golden goal) overtime. They finished with a 4-2-0 record receiving the second place trophy for their division. Five players tallied goals and three of them were assisted by their teammates.
The team played excellent soccer throughout the weekend and were an exciting team to watch. This tournament will be one they will remember for many years to come.
SAC U-P REC A SAC Lightining
The U-9 REC A SAC Lightning traveled to Mechanicsburg, PA to compete in the 2009 Hampden Girls Soccer Tournament and took the 2nd-place trophy with 2 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties. The Lightning offense led all teams with 15 goals in 4 games with aggressive, attacking play from Leah Simmons, Isabel Posey, Bryce Bathras, Emma O'Brien and Nicole Blair. The Lightning midfield and defense gave up only 5 goals throughout the tournament. Brooke Caracci, Madison Pisone, Caroline Davidson and Chloe Gilreath were outstanding. Natalie Perkins and Sydney Morson split time as goalies for the Lightning and made many spectacular saves against some of Pennsylvania's finest U9 girls. Sydney Morson made a fabulous save on a penalty kick in the final game to cement 2nd place for the Lightning.
SAC wants to congratulate these three teams for doing so well this past weekend. Players, keep up the good work!
