Second-ranked Carmel parlayed its 3-2 semistate upset of four-time defending state champion No. 1 Park Tudor earlier in the week into the school’s fourth girls team tennis state crown June 6 at North Central (Indianapolis).

The Greyhounds (19-1), who avenged their only loss of the season in upsetting Park Tudor on these same courts five days earlier, defeated fourth-ranked Munster in a 3-2 semifinal before downing No. 13 Homestead, 4-1, in the championship match. It was the seventh runner-up finish for Homestead (19-1), a state record.

In the consolation match, Munster (18-2) posted a 4-1 win over Terre Haute South (21-2). The third-place Mustangs have finished second six times, including the last three years to Park Tudor.
