REGISTRATION FORM
This introductory course (15 hours, 1 credit) will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to
recognize and treat basic injuries in sports medicine. It is being taught by Mike Williams, Coordinator
of Athletics, and Fred Talentino, ATC, Howard County Public School System. This course also
fulfills the basic requirement for coaches in any public school in Maryland. The content is designed for
new athletic coaches, youth leaders, and teachers. Topics include: liability issues, emergency
procedures, medical kit review, injury assessment and treatment, mini anatomy lab, and wrapping and
taping.
Participants will need to dress for participation, as we will be doing hands on assessment,
wrapping and taping.
Attendance at all classes is mandatory. You must register in advance. Class is limited to 30
participants. Please bring pen/pencil and paper.

Charles County Public Schools is offering the Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries course on Saturday, September 12, 2009 and Saturday, September 19, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The course will be held in the board room at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building, 5980 Radio Station Road, La Plata, Maryland.  Participants must attend both classes in order to receive the MSDE/MPSSAA credit for the course.  Please wear comfortable clothes for both classes.

 

Note:  All athletic coaches must complete this course within a year from being employed as a coach.
