GREYHOUNDS ADVANCE TO TENNIS FINALS WITH 4-1 WIN OVER QUAKERS

Busick's charges seek third crown in a row

Two time defending MIAA AConference tennis champion Gilman defeated Friends School 4-1 on Tuesday at the Watkins Tennis Complex on the grounds of the Roland Park Country School, to advance to the A Conference finals on Thursday.  The Greyhounds got singles wins from #2 James Wieler and #3 Alec Hoblitzell, and they won both doubles matches.
 
"My forehand was very strong today," said  Hoblitzell.  "I was very consistent and was able to control the court."

Hoblitzell continued his season-long undefeated individual match winning streak, defeating the Quakers Frank Donnally 6-0, 6-1.
 
Friends' lone victory of the day came in the #1 singles match, when Ben Fass defeated Gilman freshman Michael Katz, 6-4, 6-1.

"He (Katz) is a very good player," said Fass.  "This was a very tiring match; we had lots of very long points."
 
Coach Jim Busick, who has led the Greyhounds for 25 years, will take his team to the champnshiop round on Thursday at McDongh (3:45).  It will mark the 22nd time in the last 23 years that the Greyhounds and Eagles have met for a league championship.

McDonogh advanced the championship match with a 4-1 win over St. Paul's.
