INDIANS AND SAINTS ARE TEAMS TO BEAT IN C-CONFERENCE FIELD HOCKEY PLAYOFFS

IND and Baltimore Lutheran both finished 13-1 in regular season, both lookinf for "C" title

After sharing the IAAM C-Conference field hockey championship in 2005, Baltimore Lutheran and Mercy were minutes away from doing the same last year  until Mercy scored late in overtime to take the 2006 title outright.

This year, although in a rebuilding mode, Mercy will look to defend its title.  Lutheran will try to claim one of its own.  And six other teams will push those two, especially top-seeded Institute of Notre Dame, looking to see which team will be the 2007 champ.

IND and Lutheran were head and shoulders above the rest of the league this season, both finishing at 13-1.  Annapolis Area Christian ended in third (8-5-1) and Mercy was the other team to finish with a winning record (7-5-2).

Those four earned home-field advantage for tomorrow??s quarters, and will host St. Timothy??s, Oldfields, Key and Catholic.

Here is a quick look at the ??C? field hockey quarter-final match-ups for Tuesday, October 30.

#8 Catholic (2-12) vs #1 IND (13-1) @ Meadowood Park
The host Indians posted 6-0 and 6-1 wins over the Cubs in the regular season, and boast the conference??s highest scoring offense.

#4 Mercy (7-5-2) @ #5 St. Timothy??s (5-9)
The Magic won both earlier meetings, by scores of 4-1 and 5-0. Can STS come up with a game-plan to halt the defending champs?

#7 Key (2-11-1) @ #2 Baltimore Lutheran (13-1)
The visiting Obezags only lost by 1-0 in the first match, but the Saints got the offense in gear the second time around, winning 5-0. Can Lutheran reach the finals for the third straight year?

#6 Oldfields (3-9-2) @ #3 Annapolis Area Christian (8-5-1)
The Eagles won via shutout in both meetings, 3-0 and 1-0.
