ARE GARRISON FOREST AND BRYN MAWR ON COURSE FOR FIELD HOCKEY TITLE REMATCH?

Grizzlies and Mawrtians draw top two seeds in A-Conference, but any team could pull an upset in wide-open race

After playing to a 0-0 tie earlier in the season, Garrison Forest (11-2-1) and Bryn Mawr (10-3-1) met in the regular-season finale, with the Grizzlies taking a 1-0 win and with it, first-place and top-seed in the IAAM A-Conference field hockey race.

The two teams met in last year??s title match, with Bryn Mawr winning the crown (after GF had won both regular-season games). So it would not come as a surprise to anyone if these two teams met again this year for the championship.

It ALSO wouldn??t surprise anyone involved if one ?? or both ?? do NOT make the finals. This year??s league has parity from top to bottom. On any given day, any team can beat any other team ?? and no waxing philosophic intended.

Top seeds Garrison Forest and Bryn Mawr looking to reach A field hockey finals - again.
Two week??s ago today ?? let??s call it ??Be-witching Tuesday? ?? the top three teams all lost to lower teams: Garrison lost to then seventh-place Roland Park Country, Bryn Mawr lost to fourth-place St. Mary??s and Archbishop Spalding lost to then sixth-place St. Paul??s SFG. Two days later, after knocking off first-place Garrison, Roland Park lost to last-place Notre Dame Prep.

After the two front-runners, Spalding (8-5-1) drew the #3 seed, being only the third team in the ??A? to finish with a winning record, and St. Mary??s (6-7-1) earned the #4 seed.

Severn, Roland Park, St. Paul??s and Notre Dame Prep will look to upset the apple-cart, and could do so, having done so before.

In fact, of today??s four quarter-finals teams, there were eight regular-season matches ?? and seven of the eight were decided by just one goal.

Here is a quick look at the ??A? field hockey quarter-final match-ups for Tuesday, October 30.

#8 NDP (3-9-1) @ #1 Garrison Forest (11-2-1)
The Grizzlies won??t be looking past the Blazers. Garrison won both meetings, but barely, by a single goal each time, 1-0 and 2-1.

#5 Severn (6-7-1) @ #4 St. Mary??s (6-7-1)
This should be a close one. The two finished with identical records, and split the season-series. The Saints won the first 2-1, and the Admirals won the second, 2-0.

#7 St. Paul??s SFG (3-8-2) @ #2 Bryn Mawr (10-3-1)
Despite the difference in records and seeds, this could be another down-to-the-wire match. The Mawrtians won both games by the same 1-0 score.

#6 Roland Park Country (4-9) @ #3 Spalding (8-5-1)
The Cavaliers won both earlier games and both were decided by a single goal, 3-2 and 1-0.
