B.J. Williams, the all-star guard from Seton Keough, has orally committed to Temple University, according to Keough Coach Jackie Boswell.

Williams is scheduled to sign on the April 9th signing date.

Williams said that Temple, University of Rhode Island, UMBC, Coppin State University and Rutgers were among schools on her final list. “I really liked the school, the city, the coach, the whole program. Plus they have four seniors so it opens up the opportunity to get playing time,” said Williams.

Temple is coached by the legendary Dawn Staley, in her eighth season at Temple. Staley played in the WNBA and also was a member of three Olympic gold medal teams.

Williams will join three other local players on the Temple roster. LaKeisha Eaddy (SO) from River Hill is a starter, and Kristine Watkins-Day (SO) from Old Mill and Dawnea Roberts (FR) from St. Frances are also on the current roster.

Temple went 21-12 this season, losing to Xavier in the Atlantic 10 championship game, 47-42. The Owls await word on whether they will receive a bid to the women’s March Madness tournament.

Williams has been one of the top guards in the Baltimore metro area, and one of the key members of a strong Keough team that was ranked No. 1 by Digital Sports and The Baltimore Sun for much of the season. The Gators knocked off St. Frances, 62-40, earlier in the season to claim and solidify the top ranking.

With one starter out sick for that game, Williams shouldered much of the back-court responsibility, and had a solid outing with 13 points, seven assists and two steals to pace the Gators. She earned the Digital Sports Female Athlete of the Week after that game.

Keough would later lose to St. Frances in the IAAM A-Conference championship game, 43-39. The Gators (28-4) – and Williams – finished their season with two wins and one loss in the Bishop Walsh Invitational Tournament.
