Girls Swimming: #2 HSE Scores Big Senior Night Victory over Lawrence North

FISHERS – Hamilton Southeastern’s second-ranked girls swimming and diving team had no trouble defeating visiting co-#13 Lawrence North 134-52 on January 22.

It was "Senior Night" at the HSE Natatorium and a packed house turned out to say their goodbyes to a total of 23 Royals seniors on both the girls and boys teams’ combined.

“Some of these athletes have been swimming for Southeastern since the age of 5,” said coach Andy Pedersen of his seniors.  “This is a phenomenal group and they have done a lot for our program.”

Hamilton Southeastern’s girls put its meet with Lawrence North away early.  In the first five events of the meet, they took the top three finishing positions in three of them. 

Only the Wildcats 200 medley relay team which finished third and Katharine Rinker’s runner-up finish in the 200 I.M., kept the Royals from sweeping the top three spots in the first five events.   

Hamilton Southeastern won all 12 events against Lawrence North. 

Three of the Royals individual event winners were seniors.  Lindsay Rogers and Emily Schroeder each won two individual events.  The third senior to win an individual event was Sarah Clay in the diving competition.  Rogers and Schroeder, who Pedersen calls his two hardest working swimmers on the girls team, each were a part of two winning relay teams as well.

Hamilton Southeastern also showed of its incredible depth against Lawrence North.  In fact, the Royals scored 27 of a possible 36 top three finishing positions at the meet.

How will its depth compare to that of top-ranked Carmel when the two goliaths meet up at this year’s state meet on February 8-9?

Well, that remains to be seen.  But on this night the Royals looked simply awesome, and that was with some of their top swimmers not even competing in their best events.

Next up for both Hamilton Southeastern and Lawrence North are the sectionals which begin on January 31.  The Royals will be a part of the Fishers Sectional, while the Wildcats will be competing in the Franklin Central Sectional.
