FISHERS – It was 'Senior Night' at the Fishers Natatorium on January 24th as five young ladies were honored for their contributions to the Tigers swim program.
However, visiting Zionsville geared up for next week’s sectional by winning the meet handily, 113-70.
The Eagles dominated the meet from start to finish. They took the top two spots in the opening event, the 200 yard medley relay, and then went on to win 9 of the next 11 events to seal the win.
Zionsville showed incredible balance from its swimmers in the win. Listen to this; all seven of the Eagles individual event wins were from seven different swimmers.
And according to Zionsville coach Scott Kubly, the meet win was a successful tune-up for next week’s sectional.
“We haven’t really started to really back off too much just yet,” said Kubly. “So tonight I just said to them if we can keep our times or maybe go just a tad bit faster, I’ll be happy. And we did fine, we’re there. I think we’re going to have a good week of taper and we will see what happens next week.”
Alex Brennan, MacKenzie Berger, Katie Newcomer, and Anna Chapman were each a part of three wins for the Eagles. Brennan (200 free), Berger (200 I.M.), and Newcomer (50 free) all won an individual event and were members of two winning relay teams. Chapman, a freshman, was a part of all three of Zionsville’s winning relays.
Fishers two event wins came courtesy of freshman Lauren Lalioff and sophomore Gail Susdorf. Lalioff won the 100 yard butterfly and Susdorf was victorious in the one-meter diving competition.
Up next for both teams is the sectional which gets underway next Thursday on January 31st. Zionsville will travel to Avon for its sectional and Fishers will host its own sectional.
Make sure to check out the video player at the end of this article for highlights from the Fishers/Zionsville dual meet. Featured for the Eagles are Brennan in the 200 free and Newcomer in the 50 free. Lalioff is featured for the Tigers in a competitive 100 yard butterfly race.
