Softball is a game of pitching. That comes as no surprise. What it means however is that strong pitching can make up for a lot of other things. Fountain Central is hoping it can make up for a lack of experience entering this season.

The Mustangs lost four starters to graduation last spring. What they did not lose was there top pitcher. That is Kelsey Everett, who returns for her senior campaign. Everett has already signed a letter of intent with IU Southeast to continue her softball career at the next level. Sophomore Kendall Jeffries will join Everett on the staff.

T he infield defense will be anchored by the team’s other returning senior, Ana Reissman at first base. Junior Julie Schreiber will move from third base to shortstop to add stability up the middle.

The big question for Fountain Central will be their ability to score runs. Veteran Coach Bill Brown will be depending on several sophomores to add some punch to the lineup. Nonetheless, Brown expects to compete for both a WRC and sectional title.
