South Plainfield - Chalk up another boys javelin title for Holmdel’s Jesse Fleischner.
Fleischner, a senior who won the Shore Conference boys javelin competition last Saturday with a personal best 174 feet, 7 inches, added another gold medal to his collection by winning the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 sectional javelin title at Frank Jost Field in South Plainfield on Saturday.
“I was feeling good and focused and my goal was to get a personal best,” said Fleischner.
Going into the meet, he was seeded second behind Rahway’s Troy Eastman. On his first throw of the day, Fleischner took the lead with a throw of 175 feet, 2 inches. This marked another personal best.
When he heard the results of this effort he thought, “I could improve on it.”
And he was right.
As he released his second throw of the day, he said he knew it was going to be a far throw: 181 feet, 7 inches to be exact.
“I was pretty confident that that would hold up going into the finals,” he said.
And hold up it did.
Fleischner’s new personal best remained unchallenged during the finals. He will advance to the NJSIAA Group 3 meet on Saturday, May 31, also at Frank Jost Field in South Plainfield. Pat O’Neill, of West Morris Central, was second with a throw of 172 feet, no inches and Troy Eastman, of Rahway, was third with a mark of 166 feet, 4 inches.
