St. Mary’s High School has announced the departure of head football coach Mike Clay. Clay led the Saints to the 2007 MIAA B Conference Championship last fall.

“We are grateful for Coach Clay’s commitment to the players and for the success they have experienced on the field during his tenure as head coach here at St. Mary’s,” remarked Principal Richard Bayhan. “For a number of reasons, though, we felt that it was time for a change in that position. We wish Coach Clay well.”

Brad Best, a teacher and a former head football coach at St. Mary’s, will take the reins as interim coach for the fall. Best guided the Saints to an MIAA A Conference championship in 1996.
