Girls volleyball: Legends of the Fall

Meet Miss Do-it-all.
Need a big spike? No problem. A crucial ace? Taken care of. A tough dig? In the bag.
That is Alyssa Lang in a nutshell. So it is no surprise that she was selected as the DigitalSports girls volleyball player of the year.
Lang's skill and leadership was pivotal as Deep Run (24-5) repeated as state champions. The only senior on the team, her younger teammates often looked to the 5-9 outside hitter for guidance throughout the regular season and post season.
Her intensity during matches was like having a second coach on the court. Lang led the Wildcats to the Central region title and she kept the team together when they went down 2-1 to Frank Cox in the state semifinals. Deep Run then overwhelmed Langley in the championship.
She was the Colonial District co-player of the year and was named to the Central Region first team.
Lang, headed to the University of Maryland Baltimore County where she will continue her volleyball career, finished the season with 256 kills, 399 digs, 74 aces and 14 blocks.
