Seven different players netted goals for Chantilly Thursday night in an 18-4 rout over Stone Bridge in the quarterfinal round of the Northern Region tournament.
The Chargers wasted little time as junior
Kaitlyn Stillwell scored just over three minutes into the game. A minute later it was junior
Brittany Griel and a minute after that sophomore
Elizabeth Dunwoody got in on the action as Chantilly's lead began to mount.
This, it turns out, was a familiar trend as that trio scored scored a combined 13 goals on the night. Dunwoody led the way with six goals while Griel added four and Stillwell netted three.
"Everybody played really well," Dunwoody said after the game. "It wasn't just an idividual player taking it to the goal. Everybody contributed. It was great."
Stone Bridge, meanwhile, got two goals from senior
Meghan DeMartino to make the score 4-2 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half, but Chantilly would answer ripping off eight unanswered goals.
Junior
Jessica Dennis scored back to back goals during that span giving her three on the night.
With a 12-2 lead in the second half the Chargers slowed the game and worked the clock with each possession until it had all zeros.
The Bulldogs finished their season with a 13-2 record and a Liberty District championship banner to hang in the gymnasium.
The Chargers, meanwhile, move on to the Northern Region semifinals and will face the winner of Madison/Westfield on Monday at Lake Braddock.
