    TOMS RIVER --
Everyone realized just how dominant Southern junior Glenn Carson was going to be when they watched him wrestle during his sophomore year. He had the power, the size and the confidence not often seen in the 10th grader, and he used those attributes to make a somewhat surprising run to the 215-pound state final.
He ended up losing that bout to Paulsboro's Alex Silvestro, but since then has been nearly unstoppable. Brick Memorial's Kevin Docherty made an improbable run to Saturday's NJSIAA Region VI final at 215 pounds but as it always does, the fun ends when you draw Carson.
The Rams junior put another exhibition of strength and wrestling skill in defeating Docherty, 17-6, to capture his second straight region title. He won by at least 11 points in each of his three Region VI tournament wins by pinning Jackson's Justin Georgiano in the quarterfinals and winning by technical fall, 15-0, over Wall's Dave Janssen in the semifinals. Carson joins Bryan Stout, Frank Molinaro and Luke Lanno as Southern's two-time region champions.
"Just working hard every single day in practice is the key to everyone's success," Carson said. "You just have to keep working hard."
There will be some tough wrestlers waiting for Carson in the state tournament, but that has not changed what the majority of experts have though since the season started, which is that Carson will be standing on top of the medal stand on March 9.
"I'm feeling confident and I should," Carson said. "I've beaten two of the top guys in the state already in the Beast of the East Tournament. I can't look past them because I know they're tough, but I just have to wrestle on my game. This is something I've been looking forward to since I stepped off the mat last season."
