St. John's avenged a tie against O'Connell from earlier this season.
By Ryan Minkrmink@digitalsports.comWhile St. John’s was in the midst of a coaching change earlier this season, it became evident that the Cadets weren’t the preseason juggernaut people thought they were. During that phase, the Cadets were lucky to pull out a tie against O’Connell at home.
But now under new
Coach Colin Lennon, and following a 2-1 win over O’Connell on Friday, St. John’s may very well have earned back its leading role.
St. John’s won its sixth straight game behind goals from
Ally Grossman and
Liz Seligman.
“I think for the first time this year we’re seeing some chemistry,” Lennon said.
Lennon was impressed with how well the team played on the road, on a field that was tougher than the Cadets’ home turf. He was thrilled that the Cadets scored their first goal off a set play they worked on during practice.
Most of all, he’s happy to get a win against a tough foe. O’Connell still stands atop the WCAC with a record of 10-3-1 but St. John’s is 8-1-4 and 8-0-4 in the conference.
“It’s big,” Lennon said of the victory. “They’re a big rival of ours. It was a confidence-builder for us to beat one of the better teams in the league on the road.”
