IAAM LACROSSE STARS SHINE IN UNDER ARMOUR ALL-AMERICAN CLASSIC

League stars play a key role in All-American and Under Classmen victories

In a game that was not as close as the final score might indicate, the South squad, featuring seven representatives from the IAAM, defeated the North, 14-11, in the second annual Under Armour All-American Girls Lacrosse Classic, yesterday, on Diane Geppi Aikens Field at Loyola College in Baltimore.

The South team built an early cushion and was able to more or less trade goals with the North the rest of the way, as Corey Donohoe, the Baltimore's consensus Player of the Year from North Harford led the way with five scores.

Donohoe was named the game's Most Valuable Player for her efforts, but a pair of Bryn Mawr stars ?? Kate Janian and Jordyn Kirr ?? certainly made their presence known as well.

Janian, who will play at Yale next year, was excellent in goal, as she made the start and allowed just three goals in 21 minutes of action.

Kirr, seeing her first game action since a broken collarbone ended her Bryn Mawr career prematurely, appeared in top form as she scored three points

for the South and handled the ball flawlessly.  The future Georgetown Hoya has also been named to the U.S. Under-19 national team.

Also representing the IAAM yesterday were Kirstyn Atkinson of McDonogh, Ellen Cook of St. Paul's School for Girls, Brooke Lipinski of Maryvale Prep, Brooke Matthews of Friends and Caroline Spearman of McDonogh.

Earlier in the day, the IAAM was also well represented in the Baltimore/Washington Challenge as 10 of 21 players on the victorious Baltimore squad, which was coached by St. Mary's Sue Chittim, play in the IAAM.

In an exciting contest, Roland Park Country's Ashley Cahill broke a 12-12 tie, late in the second half, with her third goal of the game, and Baltimore went on to post a 15-13 victory.  For her efforts, which also include an assist, Cahill was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Notre Dame Prep's Erin Laschinger matched Cahill's hat-trick and four points, while Megan Schrum of St. Mary's had a goal and an assist.

Other IAAM players who got on the scoreboard included St. Mary's freshman Haydon Judge, NDP sophomore Kelsi Bozel, Severn freshman Mackenzie Carroll and John Carroll sophomores Brittany Dashiell and Jennifer Zoltoski, who each scored one goal.
