ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – August 6, 2008 –
DigitalSports®, a national network of local sport communities, connecting athletes, coaches, fans, and families, announced today their annual scholarship winners. The DigitalSports “Applause” and “Media” Scholarships are awarded annually to local senior-level students that excel in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the community while overcoming extraordinary adversity. David Kruchko of Westfield High School, Eric Avissar of Robinson Secondary School, Jessica Lloyd of Westfield High School and Greg Young of Annandale High School each recently took home a prize of $1,000 for their exemplary accomplishments, both on and off of the field, to be used toward tuition during their upcoming collegiate year.
Kruchko, a recent graduate of Westfield High School, was selected as the Applause winner because of his stunning recovery and contributions to his team. After suffering a near debilitating break in his leg, this honor-student returned to the Westfield football program to help them capture the Virginia AAA Division 6 state championship and personally finish the season with 41 receptions for 518 yards and 11 touchdowns. Kruchko plans to attend Virginia Tech this fall.
DigitalSports also awarded three, thousand-dollar Media Scholarships to the Northern Region students who contributed the best content on the most consistent basis to their local DigitalSports.com website.
The winner for the Fall sports season was rising Robinson Secondary School senior Eric Avissar. The winner for the Winter sports season was recent Westfield High School graduate Jessica Lloyd, who will pursue her college education at Virginia Tech. And the winner for the Spring sports season was recent Annandale High School graduate Greg Young, who will continue his journalism studies at the University of Missouri.
