Last week, Falls Church made more headlines than a corduroy pillow when it beat Edison on the road, 16-14.

The Jaguars allowed one completion and intercepted the Eagles twice.

Falls Church senior Marcus Hughes carried 37 times for 191 yards and two scores in the win. In the last five games, he has 823 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Holler.

The Jaguars look to keep their momentum and, possibly, move into the playoff bracket with a win over the Majors.

Mount Vernon is still seeking that elusive first win, but appears to have an offensive formula in place. It scored 21 points in the second half last week versus Washington-Lee, most against the first-team defense.

Look to Falls Church seniors Kyle Ruttkay and Matt Renn to attempt to crack that code.

If the Majors are steal the Jaguar impetus, expect a huge night in the return game. They averaged 40.4 yards per kick return last week against the Generals, including an 85-yard touchdown by junior Emmanuel Tackie and a 59-yard return by senior Dannish Decardi-Nelson that set up another score.

Since a 16-13 win by Falls Church over Mount Vernon in 1999, sparked by two fourth-quarter touchdown passes by Lester Morris, the team that has won this game finished with the better season record.

Advantage: Jags, they can finish with no fewer wins than the Majors.

Mount Vernon is 8-1 in this series since that loss 10 years ago.

Addie: Majors.

Last season, this was the highest-scoring regular-season game in the Northern Region, as Mount Vernon outran Falls Church, 69-40, on October 10.

Even with 16 minutes of running clock in the second half, the Majors and Jaguars combined for 16 touchdowns. Falls Church quarterback Sam Gerima passed for 304 yards with five scores and two picks, but the team rushed for one net yard. Mount Vernon rushed 35 times for 390 yards and seven scores.

Two bold predictions: Fewer points and more than one rush yard for Hughes.

You're welcome.
