Baltimore City College's James Carmon, a 6-foot, 340-pound Division I prospect as a two-way lineman, told DigitalSports on Monday that he will attend Lackawanna Junior College, after which he will resume entertaining the prospect of playing at a major college.
A senior who totaled 24 sacks over the past two seasons for the Knights, Carmon said he will spend time at the Scranton, Pa., program improving his grade point average and to further prepare himself for a college he believes offers "the right fit."
"I was recruited as an offensive lineman as well as a defensive lineman, but I prefer playing defense -- particularly defensive tackle," said Carmon, who anchored the Knights to an 8-3 record and a berth into the Class 2A North Region semifinals -- the school's third straight playoff berth.
Carmon, who recovered three fumbles, listed the schools he is most interested in as being Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Ohio State.
"I'm looking at this as an opportunity to improve myself as a student and as an athlete, and to do whatever I have to do to get where I want to go," said Carmon, whose agility is bourne out in the fact that he averages eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots as a center on the Knights' basketball team.
Carmon anchored the Knights to two of their past three victories in the annual City-Poly football game.
