From his position on the pitcher's mound during Wednesday's game opposite Forest Park, Digital Harbor freshman Nathan Pitts kept one thing on his mind: Winning.
"I just knew we were having a good game, and that we were winning, but I really didn't think about how well I was pitching," said Pitts, a 5-foot-8 right handed hurler.
But just as the runs kept piling up for the Rams on the way to an eventual, 21-0 shutout victory, so too, did the outs for Pitts, who came within a walk of throwing a perfect game.
Pitts' did not discover that he was close to a perfect game until being told by a teammate after the game.
"I was like, 'Wow,'" said Pitts, who improved to 3-0 with the victory. "I never have thrown a no-hitter. This is going to help my confidence."
The Rams are in first place in the Baltimore City League's first division, having edged eight-time city champ, Poly, 6-5, during a game in which Pitts had a run-scoring hit.
