Ashburn, VA (Aug. 12, 2008) - Broad Run High School senior Haley Johnson will play NCAA Division I softball at James Madison University starting in 2009-10. The Spartan catcher has led BR to back-to-back undefeated Virginia AA state title seasons and a No. 1 national ranking.

Johnson is the sixth player from the Spartans undefeated 57-game run to continue at a higher level as she joins Michelle Clohan (James Madison), Caitlyn Delahaba (Villanova), Ashley Kramer (Longwood), and Karla Powell (Wisconsin) from the class of 2008 and Judy Betz (Wagner) from the class of 2009.

Clohan will be playing at JMU this coming school year with older sister Jenny, a senior for the Dukes who was a standout pitcher at Broad Run. JMU also features two other seniors from the Loudoun area including Julia Dominguez (Park View) and Amber Kirk (Loudoun County).

"I chose JMU because I loved the campus and school spirit there. I know people that play on the team already so it should be fun playing with them and I loved the coaching staff," said Johnson. "Also, its a good school academically and athletic wise they have a really good program that I want to be a part of."

Johnson is also the eighth rising Spartan senior to already make their Division I college plans. Other BR early decisions in addition to Betz and Johnson: Kristen Burt (volleyball/Norfolk State), Kelly Evans (soccer/ODU), Caitlin Hunter (soccer/UNC-Wilmington), Will Field (lacrosse/Sacred Heart), Holly King (soccer/Florida), Tim Sanders (lacrosse, Sacred Heart).

Johnson is a nearly .400 lifetime hitter for the Spartans with more than 100 hits with just nine strikeouts. Her defense behind the plate for BR has been key to the Spartans three-year reign during which the team has gone 82-1.
