WASHINGTON - Five senior student-athletes from the champion St. John's College High School girls soccer team formally signed their National Letters of Intent to NCAA Division I and II institutions Wednesday.
From 2005 to 2008, the five student-athletes helped lead St. John's to a 77-13-8 (.785) record and three Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships in 2005, 2007 and 2008. In addition, St. John's advanced to the WCAC championship game in 2006.
"St. John's is very proud of all of our student-athletes who will continue to play soccer at the collegiate level," said St. John's head coach
Colin Lennon. "I wish them the best in their collegiate pursuits."
Defender
Bailey Bodell (Boyds, Md.) will stay locally and attend the University of Maryland. Bodell was selected to four Washington Post All-Met and four All-WCAC teams. In addition, Bodell was named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Girl's High School Scholar All-America team.
Midfielder
Remi Gibba (Gaithersburg, Md.) will play soccer in the Big 10 Conference at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. Gibba was the 2008 Washington Post Girls Soccer Player of the Year, and the 2008 WCAC Player of the Year. She was also named to four All-WCAC teams, including a first team selection in 2008. Gibba led St. John's in scoring this past season with 12 goals and six assists.
A pair of Cadets will play for perennial NCAA Division II power University of Tampa. Midfielder
Sara Kneeland (Glenelg, Md.) was a 2008 Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention selection and a four-time All-WCAC honoree. Kneeland scored the game-winning goal in the 2008 WCAC championship match against Bishop O'Connell.
Defender/midfielder
Dana Palmiotto (Ellicott City, Md.) will join Kneeland in the Sunshine State. Like Kneeland, Palmiotto received 2008 All-Met accolades and was a four-time All-WCAC honoree. The University of Tampa won the 2007 NCAA Division II National championship.
Midfielder
Krissia Vasquez (Bowie, Md.) will play for Division I Radford University in Radford, Va. Vasquez was a 2008 Washington Post All-Met Second Team selection and a four-time All-WCAC honoree.
In addition to the five scholarship student-athletes who will play soccer in college,
Elizabeth Seligman (Rockville, Md.) will play at Division III Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md.
