The Bulldogs could not overcome the three fumbles they gave away to Greene on Saturday morning. Greene converted these short fields into points all day long. So far this year the team had worked hard to secure the football by limiting drive ending turnovers. As a team we have a positive takeaway ratio, forcing teams into compromising field positions. On Saturday the Dogs turned the ball over 3 times while only having 1 takeaway, very uncharacteristic for this years team. Colin Ellis recorded one interception against Greene. That helped Delhi put points on the board.
On defense, the team failed to executed assignments which proved costly against this very fast team. On offense the Greene defensive front gave the O-line headaches all day with their aggresive front. Blocks were executed but not sustained to give our running backs room to manuever.
On a positive note the Bulldogs were still in the game late in the 4th quarter. A great defensive stand forced a safety by Greene when they mishandled a punt snap, drawing the Bulldogs within 14 points. But like the entire day the Dogs were not able to capitalize and close the gap. Mike Thomas, Kevin O'Connell and Jake Sackett led the defensive effort with strong performances.
The Bulldogs look to rebound this weekend when they play host to the Oxford Blackhawks at 10:00 am on Dave Kelly Field. Following the game the Varsity will play against Hancock to determine the final playoff picture.
