After and disappointing loss to Greene last week the JV Bulldogs returned to the practice field to right the wrongs and correct the mistakes made by the team.  Eventhough the Bulldogs lost in Greene some solace can be taken in the fact that the boys played hard all morning long but were unable to survive their self inflicted mistakes.  Refreshed from thier long weekend, the team turned in the best 2 practices of the last three weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday.  With focus and concentration the boys prepped for the upcoming battle with Oxford.  But on Thursday some illnesses and absences kept the number of boys at practice down to 16 which proved difficult to accomplish anything productive.

So on Saturday morning when the Blackhawks arrived the coaching staff still had questions about the teams defensive preparedness.  The boys soon alleviated any doubt by holding the Blackhawks to only 1 first down all day and returning an interception by Colin Ellis 50 yard for a touchdown.  As a defensive unit all players committed to executing thier assignments and that paid great dividends.  Nick Steffens, Brandon Snyder and James Ingram secured the edges of the defense, a point of emphasis from last week, while linebackers Mike Thomas and Tom Telian controlled the middle of the field.  Telian's defensive pressure was more than Oxford could handle, he recorded a team leading 6 solo tackles, a 5 yds sack and several tackles for a loss.

Telian was also responsible for 155 all purpose yards on the day, 85 rushing and 70 yards in returns.  This included a 2nd half opening kickoff return for a touchdown.  Solid rushing numbers were tallied by the 4 running backs, fullback Ben Cairns chipped in with 61 yds rushing, 1 touchdown and 3 PAT's.  Roger Homer connected with Jake Sackett on a 40 touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The 2nd half also saw a wealth of playing time for the boys who have not had a chance to crack the starting lineup.  Tyler Hymers led the offense from under center for the 3rd and 4th quarters.  Also, reserve defensive linemen Kevin Franckowiak and Tom Gillespie held the Oxford offense to minimal yardage.

The Bulldogs travel to U-V to take on the Storm this Saturday with hopes of improving on thier current record of 5-2.  Last year the Storm and Bulldogs fought hard but the Bulldogs weathered the storm to come away with a 16-8 victory.
