On a this past cold wet Saturday morning the JV Bulldogs boarded their bus for UV in hopes of collecting thier 6th win of the season. The boys turned in a good week of practice as the year comes rapidly to a close. Standing in the way this week was a solid team from Unadilla Valley. The Storm had been playing great ball beating up on teams and when the game started they looked to continue. A poor kickoff by Ben Cairns gave UV starting position on the 50 yard line and they capitalized by breaking contain on a loose ball and getting a 15 pass interference penalty, leading to a touchdown and conversion. But the Bulldogs ansewred back with a touchdown and conversion only to give the lead away through a breakdown in kickoff coverage. Roger Homer and Jake Sackett connected on a TD pass into the wind to get the score even. The tough Storm quarterback legged out a 50 TD around the left side end going untouched intot the endzone.
When the halftime whistle sounded the Bulldogs found themselves down 20-14 but the coaches and team worked on some halftime adjustments that proved to be the difference. In the second half the Bulldogs shut down the Storm offense and tallied two of their own scores. First Colin Ellis replaced an injured Chris Bracci and took a toss into the UV endzone off the right side. And later Roger Homer hooked up again with Jake Sackett for the final score of the day. Jake Sackett's concentration proved to be the difference on the tipped ball.
Defensively the Bulldogs struggled all day witht he speed of UV but they did force 3 turnovers, interceptions by Chriss Bracci and Roger Homer and a fumble recovery by Jake Sackett put the Dogs in good position all day. This weekend the team host the Unatego Spartans on Saturday morning at 10 am in our last game of the season.
