The unpredictable twists and turns of the MIAA A Conference baseball season continued to play out, yesterday, as St. Pauls scored four times in the top of the seventh to pull out a 13-10 win over Archbishop Spalding, a club which had climbed into first place.

A two run double by Collin Majev, who also got the win in relief, and a run scoring single off the bat of Ryan Clayton keyed the game-winning rally..

Slugging third baseman Jack Carey and heavy-hitting first baseman Austin Crabell hit solo homers for the Crusaders, while Majev had two doubles.  Jeff Kemp and Ryan Woods homered for the Cavaliers.

Coach Paul Bernstorf's charges (11-5, 5-3) have won now five of their last six and staked solid control over fourth place.

The Cavs (18-4 overall) were coming off a solid 6-2 win over previously unbeaten Archbishop Curley on Monday.  They are now 7-2 in the league and have slipped back into third place, behind Curley and Calvert Hall, who each won yesterday.

Calvert Hall beat John Carroll 11-1 in Bel Air on home runs by Kevin Lingerman, Pat Blair and Mike Dillon.  Dillon got the win for coach Lou Eckerl.  Centerfielder Brooks Rothschild was 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Cardnals, the #19 team in the country as ranked by Baseball America.

Curley (12-3 overall) edged McDonogh, 4-3, on Wednesday in Owings Mills to jump back into a first place tie with Calvert Hall, as both teams improved to 7-1 in the league.

Senior right-hander Keith Fritz got the win for the Friars. Fritz and lefty Matt Johnson, who came on  the seventh, held the Eagles to six hits.  Matt Wilson had a double for coach Jack Thomas, and Mike Schuster homered for Ian Hendricks' Eagles.

At Gilman, Mount St. Joseph (8-7, 2-5) got a compete game three-hitter from lefty Zach Spahn  as the Gaels beat the Greyhounds 11-0.  Gilman (2-8, 1-7) was coming off a resounding 11-0 win over Gibbons on Tuesday.

Zach McElroy lost a no-hit bid in the fifth inning against Gibbons on an infield single, but he went on to throw a nifty one-hitter. Sam Frank wallopped a grand-slam homer for Coach Marty Meloy in that one.
