After its championship reign ended last year, the Institute of Notre Dame indoor soccer team will attempt to start a new streak as the IAAM indoor soccer playoffs begins Thursday afternoon. The Indians, who lost to Maryvale Prep in the A finals after five straight titles, are the No. 1 seed after a perfect 8-0 regular season.
Garrison Forest (7-1) won a coin flip for the top seed in the B Conference. This leaves Baltimore Lutheran (7-1) as the #2 seed and the Saints will play St. Timothy's (1-8).
Key School (4-2-3) and Bryn Mawr (2-5-2) meet for the third time Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the opening round at Perring. The teams played to a tie in their two regular season meetings. The winner will face Garrison Forest, next Wednesday. Monday's other game features No. 3 Oldfields (5-3-1) and No. 6 Beth Tfiloh (1-7).
Oldfields defeated Beth Tfiloh, 3-0, in last week's regular season matchup. The winner advances to the semifinals Wednesday at 4:30 at Perring, against the Lutheran/St. Tim' winner.
DuBurns Arena will be the host for the A Conference tournament with Glenelg Country School facing Park in a play-in contest Thursday (Jan. 31) at 4:30 p.m.
The Dragons routed Park, 13-2, three weeks ago at the Canton facility for their lone victory. Thursday's winner will play IND in an opening round contest Monday at 4:30 p.m. Defending champ and No. 4 seed Maryvale plays No. 5 St. Paul's School in the preceeding contest Monday. The teams played to a 2-2 tie in December.
Friday, No. 2 seed John Carroll faces seven-seed Roland Park Country School at 3:30 p.m., followed by third-seeded Friends School versus No. 6 Notre Dame Prep. John Carroll defeated Roland Park, 9-2, during the regular season. Friends claimed a 4-2 decision over Notre Dame Prep Jan. 11.
The semifinals are Wednesday afternoon, leading to "Championship Friday" at DuBurns Arena. The B finals will tip-off at 3:30 p.m. followed by the A title game at 4:30 p.m.
