Junior Sam Dennis leads Spalding Girls Cross Country Team to IAAM A Conference Meet Sweep at McDonough High School on Tuesday, October 7, 2008.  Sam Dennis led the girls cross country team to continue their undefeated season so far in the IAAM A Conference.  She was Spalding's top finisher of the tri-meet, with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds.  She led the pack for the first mile and finished 5th overall.
The top finishers for the meet were Elizabeth Tauber, a runner for John Carroll, who came in first at 19 minutes 6 seconds.  She was followed by Madeline Dulac, of McDonough, who recorded at time of 19 minutes 52 seconds.  Taylor Battaglia of John Carroll came in third, at 20 minutes, 24 seconds, and Jo Baird of McDonough came in 4th at 20 minutes 33 seconds.
Three Spalding freshmen followed, to placed 6th, 7th and 8th overall.  Elisa Heacock finished 6th with a time of 21 minutes 2 seconds.  She was followed by Ali Logan, placing 7th overall with a time of 21 minutes 18 seconds.  Kaye Philbin place eighth at 21 minutes 23 seconds.  Their places helped Archbishop Spalding sweep the tri-meet, with a win over McDonough of 25-32, and beating John Carroll High School 27-28.
Two John Carroll runners came in 9th and 10th, recording times of 21:30 (Janine Martin) and 21:41 for Melissa Vinton.
Senior Amanda LeFleur had a spectacular finish, sprinting ahead of a John Carroll and McDonough runner to come in 11th overall, helping lift Spalding over their conference rivals.  She had a time of 21:43, just ahead of John Carroll runners Amanda Hucak, who had a time of 21 minutes 44 seconds and Kara Hoppes of McDonough.  Her 5th place time helped the Spalding team beat their rivals in this meet.
The Cavaliers are now 5-0 in the IAAM A Conference.
The Cavaliers girls cross country team will next face their next challenge at Hereford High School for the Annual Bull Run Invitational on Sat. Oct. 11.
Their last conference cross country meet will be against rivals Notre Dame Prep on Wed. Oct. 15.
