Ashburn (June 13, 2009) - B-what? Bethune-Cookman University is what as Briar Woods High School volleyball standout Krysta Gardner has signed to play for the NCAA Divison I Wildcats starting in the fall.
Gardner, with a 30-inch vertical leap, was a standout basketball and volleyball player for the Falcons, but made the choice to concentrate on volleyball her senior year, despite making second team all-Dulles District her junior year on the hoops court.
"I have played basketball longer, but I just really love volleyball," said Gardner.
Gardner, encouraged by her family from the stands including her father Kevin's "B-what" cheers, helpedthe Falcons to defeat Broad Run in the Dulles District quarterfinals last fall and advance. Click here for a postmatch interview after that win.
Bethune-Cookman's small size, location near the beach and education quality were all factors in selecting the school.
"I really like the schoo's tradition," said Gardner. "I visited and I really love the campus."
Gardner believes she will be used on the rightside as an attacker and possibly on defense. She plans on majoring in psychology.
