Indian Creek Upper School's boys' varsity soccer team fell to Gunston Day School, 6-4, in an early preseason scrimmage Monday.
But with the Eagles being tested in unfamiliar positions in the scrimmage, Indian Creek looks to have a promising season ahead.
Going down 3-0 early, the Eagles clawed their way back into the game with goals in the first half by sophomores Kendall Alstad, who was assisted on the play by KC Pendergrast, Pierce Hurlbutt on a penalty kick and Pendergrast on an assist by Alex Loechel.
Indian Creek trailed 4-3 at half time and by 5-3 early in the second half when Hurlbutt struck for his second score of the game with an assist from Allen Hofstetter. Although the final score was 6-4 in Gunston's favor, Indian Creek competed hard all game and showed fortitude in coming back.
