HA Staff Report
It was a
very impressive opening night for Hoosier Heritage Conference squads Friday
night. The eight league teams went 6-2 overall and one of those lesses came in
a conference tilt.
Perhaps the
biggest win of the evening came in New Palestine’s 22-16 victory over
Whiteland. The contest marked Tim Abel’s debut as coach of the Dragons and they
showed signs of significant improvement over last season. Shelbyville also had
a landmark victory. The Golden Bears downed Greensburg 35-14, giving Coach
Parks his 75th win as mentor at Shelbyville. That made him the
winningest coach in school history.
Greenfield-Central
stiffened its defense at halftime and left New Castle with a 28-8 victory after
trailing at intermission. Rushville
faced no such challenge in dispatching Connersville 46-24. That was not the
biggest rout of the evening. That title belongs to Delta who blew out Jay
County 56-6. Looks like the high powered Eagle offense is picking up where it
left off last year.
Yorktown and
Pendleton Heights began conference play on opening night. The Tigers came away
with a 24-21 victory in a game that held reason for both teams to be
optimistic. Yorktown continued its winning ways from a year ago while Pendleton
Heights showed tremendous improvement on the defensive side of the ball.
Finally, Mt. Vernon fell victim to the strong rushing attack of Kokomo 34-7.
