GREENFIELD-CENTRAL's No. 2 VARSITY DOUBLES TEAM OF MITCHELL AND SHARRER FIND SUCCESS

Pendleton Heights is a very talented tennis team. Greenfield-Central's varsity No. 3 singles was beaten by Pendleton along with its No. 1 varsity doubles team.

But that was not the case for Greenfield-Central's No. 2 doubles team of Garrett Mitchell and Daniel Sharrer, which defeated its Pendleton Heights opponents 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Mitchell and Sharrer are in their first year of playing competitive tennis for the Cougars, and they are really starting to shine. The pair has have bounced back-and-fourth between junior varsity and varsity and now boast an overall record of 12-1.

They won the JV Hancock County Championship for doubles. And Wednesday night they were part of a thriller.

Mitchell and Sharrer started out with a loss of the first set, 4-6, and were down 2-5 in the second set. But they came back against Pendleton to take the second set, 7-5 in a tiebreak, and rode that momentum into the third and final set. Even out-of-the-gate at 2-2 in the third, Mitchell and Sharrer won three in a row to make it 5-2. Then the Pendleton pair picked up some speed, winning two straight to close within 5-4.

But Mitchell and Sharrer took the next point to close out the match with a 6-4 victory.

The exciting game took 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete, but the boys were absolutely determined not to lose.

Greenfield-Central did lose as a team that night, 4-1, but Mitchell and Sharrer's 12th win of the season was a true highlight.

These boys are doing a great job. Can't wait to see what will happen with them next year!
