Hanover, ranked fifth in the DigitalSports top 10, improved their record to 10-2 with a win in Wednesday night’s home game as they defeated Douglas Freeman 9-1.

The Hawks were led by pitcher Lisa Puyear who pitched a complete game only allowing one run and five hits.

Hanover wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard as they knocked in four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The Rebels answered back in the second inning scoring a run.

It was all Hawks the rest of the ball game as they rallied off some heavy hitting by center fielder Amanda Woolard and right fielder Tiffany Browning.

“Last year they beat us and it was good to get revenge,” Woolard said. “We are really excited to play Lee-Davis on Friday and we are looking for a win. If we beat Lee-Davis then we pretty much have the Capital District in the bag.”

Browning hit an RBI double in the third bringing home Woolard and Mary Baker to put the Hawks up 6-1.

In the sixth inning, it was Browning again who would start another big rally with the bat as she smashed a home run between the left field gap increasing the Hawks lead to 7-1.

Allison Worley
also knocked in a run for Hanover in the sixth with her RBI double bringing in Marybeth Sciolino.

Immediately after, it was Woolard who delivered the final blow to the Rebels as she hit a RBI single into right field sending Sciolino home putting Hanover ahead 9-1.

Puryear ended the Rebels hope for a come back as she was able to pitch a quick three outs to take the win.
