Senior Preston Busbee has been nothing short of incredible during his time as a wrestler for Heathwood Hall. Since he began his career as a Highlander, Busbee has had a career record of 89-12. Pretty good right? And to top it off 34 of those wins have come this year with only one loss. This Saturday Busbee goes for 35 as he will wrestle in his final match at the 2009 SCISA Individual State Wrestling Championships.
Busbee isn't the only senior wrestling in his final match. Jack Moorman has also been a large portion of Heathwood's success this year, according to Coach Wall. He says "Moorman's outstanding season" is one of the reasons he is a captain this year.
The individuals tournament is designed to bring together the best-of-the-best from the private schools in the state.
Coach Wall hopes that the event Saturday will draw a large crowd from Heathwood fans.
"I know it would mean the world to these two seniors to have some fan support on Saturday," he said. "So let’s try to get the faculty, students and staff to turn out and give these guys a good send off!"
Busbee's mother, Beth, understands the hard work put into wrestling. She believes the team deserves the turnout because of their hard work.
"It’s a great group of guys who have endured quite a lot of pain to participate in this tough sport!," she said.
Several other private schools will also participate in the event including: Hammond, Cardinal Newman, Ben Lippen, Augusta Christian, Orangeburg Prep, and St. Pauls.
The tournament will take place at Heathwood Hall at 10:30 am and will conclude around 3:00 pm.
