As if coming off big wins versus Augusta Christian wasn't big enough, the boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams will once again have to prove their worth Thursday when they take on Cardinal Newman.
Last time both of the Highlanders' teams took home losses.
The girls lost by 13 and the boys by eight.
But since those teams' last meetings Heathwood has seemed to put their pieces back to together a bit.
The boys have won four out of their last six, three of those wins coming in region, and the girls have won three out of their last five.
Now both teams stand in 2nd place in SCISA AAA Region 1 and are eager for wins.
The best the Highlanders can do going into playoffs, however, is remain in 2nd place.
This being the last regular season game for the boys, a win would leave them at 7-3 while giving Cardinal Newman a 8-2 record.
The Highlander girls are in a similar situation.
A win over Cardinal Newman would place them at 7-3 as well.
Regardless, players say they are hoping to bounce back and beat the Cardinals at their home.
