After a long and hard fought season the Highlanders' hopes of a state championship fell to Ben Lippen Wednesday night.

After splitting games with Ben Lippen in the regular season, with each team winning at home, the two were forced to play a second place tie breaker game last Tuesday.

Ben Lippen won that game by one point earning them a second place spot going into the playoffs, and that gave Heathwood a third place spot.

The Highlanders squared off against Northwood Academy last Friday.

The Whalen brothers dominated early on and gave bench players an opportunity to play late in the game.

Mac Whalen scored a career high 7-three pointers and was 6 for 10 from the field, while brother Morgan tacked on a pair of each in his 9 point contribution.

The Highlanders went on to win 61-55.

Ben Lippen steamed rolled in the first round of the playoffs as well against Manning Academy, 64-40.

That meant, for the forth time in one season, Heathwood had to face Ben Lippen again.

Morgan Whalen led the Highlanders with 8 points and 5 rebounds, and Joseph English tailed him at 7 points and and 7 rebounds.

Mac Whalen struggled from the field going 0 for 2 in his field goals and 0 for 7 from beyond the arc.

Ben Lippen finished off the Highlanders 46-45.

Highlander boys say they will put the loss aside as some will now join spring sports.

The game was played at the Sumter County Exhibition Center in Sumer, SC.
