If the Highlander boys' baseball team was looking for a time to shine...it is here.

The SCISA playoffs will begin Monday and Heathwood will look to rise from their slump as they will face Florence Christian School in the first round.

The Florence Christian School Eagles enter the playoff bracket as a six seed as Heathwood enters as a three seed.

Coach Ashley Farr said although the Higlanders have struggled as of late, he still has high hopes.

"Focus is the big issue here," Farr said. "Our motto has always been 'finish the job', and I expect our guys to take care of business."

Farr says Heathwood will most likely rely on the arm of Sophomore Whit Hensley in the first game and region star Melton Bristow in game two.

Stellar defense and better power behind the plate will be key, Farr says, to success in their playoff run.

The Highlanders began their season winning six straight games but lost five out of their next seven.

They ended their season with a 7-5 loss to a Cardinal Newman team that was fighting for their playoff lives.

"It hurt us because we knew we couldn't finish any better then second in region, so I think we let down towards the end," Farr said.

Farr believes his team has what it takes, however, to make a deep run in the playoffs.

He says players like Davis Ray, who is batting .500 since coming off a shoulder injury, are who he expects to step it up this off season.

The game is scheduled for Monday at Heathwood Hall at 4:30 pm and the second game will follow.

According to SCISA's website, each round of the playoffs will consist of a 3-game series with the winning team advancing.

In each round the lower seed will host the higher seed for a double-header and if the series is spilt after the first two games, a third game will be hosted by the higher seed.
