Despite the loss of 4 of the top 7 runners from last year’s team, the Highlanders are reloading and determined to finish in one of the top four spots at the SCISA State meet.
They got off to a good start on August 25th with a 3rd place finish behind defending state champion St. Joseph’s and SCISA cross country powerhouse Ben Lippen.
West Summers led the Highlander charge with an impressive 3rd place finish, while Preston Frankstone finished in 8th place.
Both runners logged over 200 miles of summer training and are poised to help take Heathwood Hall’s boys cross country program to the next level.
In their second meet the Highlanders ran in the Skyhawk Invitational.
The meet featured 14 schools and the two defending state championship teams (St. Joseph’s – AAA Champion & Trinity Collegiate – A, AA Champion).
The Heathwood Hall boy’s team ran past Wilson Hall (the pre-season 3rd ranked team in SCISA), Ben Lippen, Camden Military and Hammond to finish in 3rd place.
West Summers (3rd Pl), Preston Frankstone (9th Pl), Charles Gray (18th Pl) and eighth grader Stephen Ridley (24th Pl) led the charge in the field of 91 varsity runners.
West Summers’ PR of 17:52 is the second fastest time in school history.
Preston Frankstone’s time of 18:44 was also a PR in just the second meet of the season.
"The boy’s team is off to a great start and if everyone stays healthy, we expect to find ourselves near the top at the SCISA state meet," says Coach Willis Ware."
