In the Spotlight
Burlington County TimesBen is a senior running back for the Shawnee football team and one of the top rushers in the county, with 111 carries for 734 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
This fall we are asking Burlington County athletes questions on different topics.
Here are Schwing’s thoughts:
When did you start playing football?
When I was in second grade.
Why did you choose football as your fall sport?
I just always liked to be physical. I used to roughhouse with
my older brothers. I just thought it was more for me.
Does your uniform number (44) have any special meaning?
I actually switched to 44 (from 7). It’s an honor to wear it for Shawnee. They put it aside in honor of Nick Garner, a player in the Medford Youth Pop Warner program who died (in 1995).
What sport do you wish you were great at?
Probably basketball. It’s a mix of a lot of other sports, which I think is pretty cool. I enjoy playing pick-up basketball, but I’d love to be better at it.
What is your favorite professional sports team?
The Phillies.
Who is your favorite athlete?
Michael Jordan. He made everybody around him better.
Who is your biggest role model?
Probably my older brother, Ty. I always looked up to him. He’s always been great about helping me out and showing me the ropes for everything.
What is your favorite school subject?
Math. I’m in Calculus right now. I just like how we’re constantly doing stuff and solving different problems.
What should people know about you that most don’t?
Even though I play sports, I’m not a typical jock. I like socializing with everybody and I hope people aren’t afraid to come up to me because of that perception about athletes.
What do you want to be doing in 2019?
I hope I’ll have graduated college and have a family. I don’t know what I’ll be doing, but I hope to have a job I’ll be excited about getting up for every morning. I hope I have a pretty easy lifestyle and maybe travel a little bit.
