Fernandina Beach, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2009) - The Greater Loudoun U14 Babe Ruth team's run at the Southeast Regional came to an end with a loss to undefeated Union County, N.C. and then a loss to local rival McLean-Great Falls.
Union County put Greater Loudoun into the loser's bracket with a 15-4 win and then went on to the title series with a 11-4 win over Jupiter, Fla. which had squeaked by Tallahassee, 11-10, in the semifinals of the winner's bracket. Greater Loudoun bounced back with a 15-4 win over Giles County, Tenn. but then McLean-Great Falls avenged its loss to Greater Loudoun in the Virginia state finals with a 9-1 win that eliminated the Lions. McLean-Great Falls was then sent home with a 9-6 loss to Jupiter.
