Annandale junior midfielder Annie Weiser netted four goals -- including the game-tying and game-winning scores -- to help lead the Atoms to an 11-10, come-from-behind victory over West Springfield in last week's Patriot District tournament championship.
What looked to be the initial game-winning goal by Weiser was waived off because of a Spartan penalty, but the junior sharp-shooter regrouped, and when play resumed fired a shot from about 15-feet away that went in with :43 seconds remaining to seal the Atoms' victory. It marked Annandale's first ever district tournament championship.
With the win, the Atoms earned the Patriot District's top seed in the Northern Region tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Annandale will host Madison, No. 4 seed from the Liberty District, and with a win would host the quarterfinal game on Thursday.
The Northern Region semifinals are scheduled for Lake Braddock on Monday and the finals are set to be played May 21 at South County.
