Sure, Springbrook only beat Northwest by three points in their regular season meeting.
But this is the playoffs now. And Wednesday night proved one thing for sure; Springbrook is not messing around anymore.
The Blue Devils jumped on Northwest early and never relented, winning 70-43 in the 4A West region semifinals at home.
Springbrook (23-0) squeaked out a 40-37 win over the Jaguars on Feb. 13. Thus, there was at least some thought prior to the game that this could be close again, especially considering Northwest’s solid wins over Wootton and Richard Montgomery already this postseason.
But Springbrook put an end to the drama quite early. The Blue Devils took an 11-0 lead before Northwest was forced to call a timeout. Jeremy Williams had five points during the run.
Destin Davis scored Northwest’s first points about midway through the first quarter, but Springbrook responded with a 10-0 run after that, including six straight points from senior Jamal Olasewere, to take a 21-2 lead.
Olasewere had eight points alone in the first quarter.
Northwest’s dream season ended, in part because of a key injury suffered in the Sherwood game to the team's leading rebounder. The Jaguars reached the region semifinals for the time in program history.
